Vivariums and Vivarium Information

A Vivarium is simply a place of living or 'place for life'. It is a home for your reptiles, hence the name reptile vivarium. Vivariums come in many different shapes and sizes, from those that you'd keep in your front room, generally 2Ft to 8FT right up to those you see at a Zoo which can be extremely large housing reptiles such as monitor lizards which require large amounts of space to roam around in.

A vivarium is normally made of Wood in this manner, especially to house a reptile.

Why Wood? Good question. Wooden vivariums are extremely durable and stackable. They are much less prone to cracking and shattering than glass counterparts which can also be stressful for a reptile. Wood is also a great insulator making it the perfect combination for your reptile such as bearded dragon and the environment that you need to create. This helps to reduce electricity costs.

Sealing your Vivarium

Although the melamine itself is waterproof, the exposed chipboard may swell if water is absorbed. We recommend that you seal the vivarium with a silicon once constructed. This silicon can be bought from Homebase, B&Q or any other hardware store. Sealing your Reptile Vivarium will greatly improve the durability of the structure. Sealing the vivarium will ensure that the structure is waterproof.

All you need to do is simply run silicon along all inside joins and areas of exposed chipboard. Make sure that you leave the silicon to dry for at least 24 hours and do not expose your reptile to the housing until it is totally dry.
